Hey, look at that

The Blue Sky Syndrome is finally done! It took 5 and a half moths to finish, which is probably 4 and a half months more than it should have taken. There's a couple of sound glitches and plot holes, but I guarantee at least a fun time. Oh well, enjoy it for what it is. The movie can be watched on its corresponding page.
The Blue Sky Syndrome...

I'm done with filming and about halfway through with post production. The rough cut is done, and it's looking to be about 30 minutes long. I'm still a little on the fence as to how it will turn out, but let's just say that you'll get to see a fight scene between the main character and Abraham Lincoln.
Yeah, I went there.
More on this later.
Greetings from the day job!

I promised myself that I'd get back on the script after school ended. That didn't happen. Instead, I played and finished HalfLife 2 and HalfLife 2: Episode 1 (both highly recommended by the way). In the week of summer that's passed, I did get a job though (and I used HL2 Gmod to build a freaking huge robot out of office cabinets thats freaking huge and it can walk and smash stuff and everything and it's freaking huge). You're now reading literature written by the newest employee of Crocs footwear.
Hurray.
I'm a sandal salesman now. I don't care, It's a job. And I need money. My last film was made on a shoestring budget of about 20 dollars. It won a high school film festival and received much critical acclaim, so think of what I could do with a $200 budget. Using my superior high school math skills, my movie would become 100 times better!
Speaking of which, I've obtained a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects. Don't ask me how I got them, I'll lie. So my first purchase is going to be an external hard drive, and hopefully I can use the school's film and lighting equipment.
This is the part where I talk about my next film: The Blue Sky Syndrome.
It's a movie about a kid living in Suburbia who sees it as a prison. He gives constant commentary on how he feels lost and alone, but he seems to always live in his own little box. I wanted to try to make his character seem very contradictory. I really wish I could explain it a little better, but my mind's drawing a blank right now. What I do remember is that I got the idea for this a while after I read The Catcher in the Rye. I liked how the Holden Caulfield would go into his little speech on Phonies, but throughout the book you'd realize that he exhibited the same fake qualities that he was so fervently against. Once again, I'll post the script when I'm done. Also, big words used in this paragraph: Suburbia, contradictory, exhibited, fervently. Big words that I didn't use: diatribe.

...is going along swimmingly. I'm six pages into the script and I'm shooting for 10. Also, I'm combining with the evil forces of Justin Moctezuma in a couple of days to revise it. He's a literary genious in his own right.
I'll post the rough draft on this site and get some feedback from you guys when it's ready. 'Til then, back to pretending to do work for AP US History!

What's the latest word.

Vernon,
Your question about film school
prompted a "frank" and somewhat
"lengthy" response that I was
unable to post as a reply...
So, I have posted a blog as a
response to your question
titled: "discouragement" & "encouragement".
I hope you enjoy it!
Jun 20, 2006 10:58PM
The film has a great look to it!
I have a question?
The trailer is nice and crisp.
What format did you download it to.
I used mpeg4 at a very high rate...
(ended up being about 80mb at only 5.44 mins)
...and yet it still looks fuzzy unlike my download
...as do many of other people's trailers on you tube
and google. Your's is the first that I've seen that
pretty much has the same quality as the actual
download.
Do tell...

Hi Vernon, I just watched your film. Good on you. It's smart and interesting. I particularly like what you're doing with language. It's very poetic and open to interpretation. I look forward to seeing where you go from here.
May 27, 2006 04:29AM
I liked the film. Good lighting, writing, acting. Congrats on your award. Are you going to do anything else with the film such as festivals/ competitions?
Happy film making!

May 25, 2006 06:49PM
Beats me weather it's ethical or not... I'm new too. But I'll tell you what, I think it's a stellar idea. I'm going to see if I can't pull off some similar magic.
May 25, 2006 06:30AM
One other question... how did you end up posting your video on the blog?
May 24, 2006 04:43PM
Vernon, it looks like you've got some talent and enthusiasm for making films. Do you have any plans for continuing this vocation through College and beyond? I'm interested because I myself am looking filmmaking for a living, and I wonder what others like me are doing in preparation. (You can just leave a post on my blog if you want)

The 1 Second Film is a non-profit project that will benefit The Gobal Fund for Women. CacaoFilms made a donation and as a result got production company credit so, I am spreading the word. You should check out the website. My first project now in pre-production is titled Two Weeks from Monday.

I like the film. Congrats on the award.
