Sonoma Valley Film festival accepts film
Feb 07, 2008 09:47AM
I was notified this morning that the film is in the shorts line-up at the Sonoma Valley Film Festival (Apr 9-13 sonomafilmfest.org). Yay!
From the festival website, "Every single Festival screening features a complimentary food & wine tasting before the film, crafted by star chefs and featuring the top wines of the Sonoma Valley region, and curated by the world's only film festival sommelier!" I'm there. V

"Ripped from the headlines...," sort of. In the world of politics, the satire practically writes itself. My goal with this film is to highlight the absurd, not by caricature, but by presenting familiar words and concepts about the border issue. When these concepts are stripped down to their basic elements in a conversation between four people, we see them bare and naked...not the people, the concepts. The style is straightforward, emphasizing the dialogue and the strange journey to the inevitable, logical conclusion. Is this where we want to go as a nation? It's a fair question. We'll know the answer soon.
One sentence defines my underlying precept - When people shout nobody listens. When people whisper, everyone wants to hear.

Just got word yesterday from Cesar Zamora, in El Paso that the film was selected for the shorts program at the Binational International Film Festival. This festival is unique in that it takes place in Texas and Mexico, so it is truly bi-national. My entry was pretty late and I hadn't expected to be picked up so I was pleasantly surprised. This is the perfect place for the film to premier. I'm glad it worked out.
I also learned yesterday that John Sayles new film, Honeydrippers will also be premiering at the BInational. Wow. That's major. I didn't expect that. Cool.
The journey starts with a single step. This is my first film fest on the filmmaker side of the aisle. Wish me luck. V
