Film Production Blog "reptileday"

Accepted by Sitges Aug 30, 2006 07:45AM
We have just had Reptile Day accepted for the self-proclaimed "No1 Fantasy Film Festival in the World" at Sitges in Catalonia, Spain. Hooray! It's in competition with a list of (I think) 100 short films. Meantime, I have an excellent mentor courtesy of the New Producers Alliance. Under her guidance I have been writing to agents, production companies and so forth seeking production partners to help to get the feature film off the ground.
inflatable alligator humping Aug 18, 2006 11:31AM
I had a look at the stats for our www.reptileday.com site today and discovered that 2 people had found us with the search term "inflatable alligator humping"! Needless to say this is strange. But there's more. In the as yet unfilmed feature script of Reptile Day there is, indeed, what you must agree is a requisite scene of a man humping an inflatable alligator. However, the script is not available from the site, so how did this search term lead them to us? Hmmm.
Shooting People - Mobile Cinema Aug 17, 2006 01:11PM
I just found out that Reptile Day has been selected for the Shooting People Mobile Cinema. This is a van that goes around Britain putting on screenings of short films with a digital projector in small local venues. The first showing was at Port Elliot, which I think is in Cornwall near St. Germans. I must say that the organisers have not yet given me info about what they are up to, so I am getting this info from their web postings. I'm sure they'll sort it soon. Ben Blaine, who runs the show wrote this in his blog about the event: "...I felt the audience slightly start to lag. I was prepared for this though and put on "Reptile Day" next which thankfully works in front of audience as well as I'd hoped it would. " This is nice to hear. As far as I can work out from reading about it online, the Mobile Cinema is also going to the USA at some point. I'll keep you posted.
First public showing Aug 11, 2006 07:50AM
Last weekend Reptile Day was shown publically for the first time at the Caption Remix comic festival in Oxford, England. It got a great response with loads of laughs, most of them in the right places. I took a few furtive glances at the audience and saw faces of incredulous wonder and amusement. A very rewarding experience. Afterwards we had a little Q&A session. My thanks to the organisers Daniel, Selina and the rest of the crew.
Our first review. Aug 11, 2006 07:44AM
We got our first review posted on the UK-based filmmakers' site ShootingPeople.org which was amazing: "A massively enjoyable film"...."a piece of perfect kitsch"...."[Reptile Day] positively fizzes off the screen at you". Read the full review, under the heading "Invasion of the Animators!" at http://shootingpeople.org/bensblog/index.php?/archives/2006/07/11.html

Film Maker's Blog

Hi Aug 03, 2006 09:16AM
I've been making films for a living for over 20 years. I began in video art and now I do films for business and comedy and promotional video content for mobile phones. For the past 10 years or more I've been studying feature film making and writing feature scripts. I've written a feature script for Reptile Day and made Reptile Day the short to promote it. You might describe it as a little sequel to the feature. I wanted to showcase my vision of this special combination of techniques which create a sort of living cartoon. I'm the writer/director and producer of Reptile Day the short, but I'm looking for a producer or co-producer with whom to make the feature version. Strangely, I've already had an offer to distribute the feature, from a sales agent who, after watching the short, thought the feature was already complete. The film was designed to exploit a low budget look, but at the same time I can't help but wish we had been able to spend a bit more money on it. I'm sure we can improve on what is, after all, an experimental piece when we make the feature! The short is now lined-up to appear in a few festivals and we feel confident it'll get into some more. We'd love to have feedback from anyone who sees it. All the best, Tom

    Dear Tom,

Sorry for the confusion! I'm trying hard to eliminate it but I think at times I just make everything more confusing. I think like a programmer, not like a member, so I make all these super-advanced features that no one even wanted, while neglecting the simple features that everyone needs!

So far, there's not much in the way of defined etiquette for friend-ing. If you add someone to your list you're automagically added to theirs, and they get an email notifying them that they have a new friend. It seems that everyone on here loves to have friends so I would say just add them at-will, and maybe leave them a little note saying hi. :) It's the best way to social network!

For navigation, I really hate the way it is too, and I really want to clean things up and help the site be more intuitive. If you have any ideas for exactly *where* you get confused or exactly what you think would help things out... let me know.

Our primary navigation is all in the "Sidebar" over on the right. That lets you find new people, or manage the various blogs you might have.

Previously all of the Blog management stuff (post new entries, update images and stuff) was all managed through "My Audience" (aka the "Activity Monitor" link in your pulldown box,) but we're trying to move blog management onto the blogs themselves.

That means that to update your profile you click the My Profile tab on your blog, to manage your Images you'll just click Gallery, and everything should make a little more sense.

I dunno, I'm just a programmer, not an intuitive interface designer, but I'm trying hard to learn the ways so any feedback you have would be sincerely appreciated.

Sorry for rambling at you. I type too fast so it's straight from brain to text with no filtration in between. :)

    Much Love,
    Sara
