mid-grade digital copies of WT, etc available.
Aug 16, 2006 08:56PM
Recently, I've gained easy access to a way of duplicating Wisdom Teeth and another older, non-copywritten work from mini-DV to DVD. Of course, both of the works are originally meant to be seen on 16mm, but in these days digital is the most easily accessible medium.
If anyone is interested in receiving a copy, I am happy to accomidate you. Just post a comment w/ mailing and/or e-mail address and we will see what happens.
happy filmmaking,
Joseph
ALEXANDER KLUGE

Not that this has anything to do with withoutabox.com. I am a huge fan of Alexander Kluge, but unfortunately cannot find any of his movies on VHS or DVD w/ english subtitles (or just in general). If anyone can tell me where to find those I will be Your Best Friend. and if anyone wants to campaign with me to get his films translated, I think that's a great idea.
What I have been doing
May 17, 2006 05:55PM
Since completing my undergraduate film studies and "Wisdom Teeth" at Hampshire College (Amherst, MA, USA) in 2004, the only significant "WT" screening was at the Winnipeg International Film Festival in June '05. I met some great people (thanks Rod Bruinooge, Winnipeg Fest Director and now Canadian Parliament member!).
Since then my most involved cinematic work has been attempting to write a feature length narrative screenplay about a milkman in Maine in 1945. My working pace is sluggish, but steady.
However, my heart is still currently with the experimentals. I have done some paint-on-film work; unfortuately I have not viewed it properly, as I do not own or have easy access to a splicer. In August '05 I went on a film shoot to Niagra Falls with Lindsey Lodhie; unfortunately she has not had the funds to develop the majority of the stock. In winter '05-06 I made a failed attempt at collaborating with Lily Henderson on her Hampshire film about elderhood. As one can see, none of the three above mentioned projects have brought me success or notoriety, but at least a stable feeling that I am, indeed, a filmmaker.

what's with this audience thing?

So far my only withoutabox registered film is "Wisdom Teeth". I've officially attempted to end promotion of it after two years, after being rejected from the '06 Oberhausen Film Fest. I still fondly talk about "WT" though, as it is my only copywritten cinematic work so far.
Of the 9 festivals it was submitted to, The Winnipeg International Film Festival '05 was the only taker. It played to a small, yet receptive crowd, and throughout the festival I encountered many chivilrous and encouraging filmmakers and appreciators.
Other than Winnipeg, "WT" screened at Hampshire College (May '04(Amherst, MA, USA)), as that is where I put it all together. It recieved a standing ovation from a room of 80 people or so, but that doesn't really count-- the Hampshire College community is far too nice.
Since then the only other "screenings" have been conducted at random for curious and unsuspecting students at Roger Williams University (Bristol, RI, USA). If they ask to see it I place them in a small dark room in the basement of the university library, put a VHS copy in, the volume at full blast, and lock the door. Reactions have varied.

How is it going. Thanks for the reply. Cellies is actually 10:50 min. short. I tried to put the meat and plot in 8 min. But at the end of the short version, the last charactor says "this could be the one they're waiting for". That sounded like a good place to end.

Hi Joseph,
I just wanted to tell you to not loose hope about your film. I've been on your movie blog and I know how it's hard to have screenings. I have been in the same situation for a long time and right now, United States take ma movies but not Canada... Big paradox since I'm a French Canadian Film maker! ;-)
However, keep working! Bu the way, I'd really love to see a preview or something about your film!
Shamane
