Woo-hoo! We're thrilled to announce that THE NEXT RACE has been selected to screen at the 2007 Hollywood DV/HD Festival right here in our own home town! Thank you Hollywood DV/HD, and thanks everyone else for your continued support of our indie sci fi film.

Welcome! Jan 14, 2007 06:28PM
The Next Race: The Remote Viewings is the first chapter of my Creation Wars saga. I shot the film in early summer 2006 in Valencia, California. Because of the limited budget, I decided to write a prequel to the bigger budgeted "second chapter" and focus more on the character relationships. I wanted to do a film that explored major themes facing humanity today -- race war, prejudice, bigotry, spirituality, religious war, etc. -- but I set it against a science fiction backdrop. I was fortunate to find an incredibly enthusiastic and gifted group of cast and crew who helped bring this vision to the screen. Todd James Fisher, my producing partner, and long time friend Cathy Agcayab Fry, co-produced the film with me. Eric Scott Woods was the first actor cast -- he came in and nailed the part, sent chills up my spine. Justin Hartley was originally cast as his brother Aiden, but simultaneously landed the lead role in the WB's Aquaman, had to bow out, and that's when I struck gold with Bailey Chase who knew the sci fi world from his appearances on Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Bailey just landed a lead role with Holly Hunter in a new TV series called Grace, so we're really happy for him! Pamela Clay was an amazing talent who I had worked with before, and she did a fantastic job as the tragic mother, Hannalin Pryme. I've been told at the few test screenings we've had that the film feels like a Greek tragedy -- and that's exactly what I was going for. People have been very, very supportive and equally impressed at the end result given the meager budget. I could go on and on about how fortunate we were to get so much help, how an angel named Carla was instrumental in many ways, including helping me find a location and turn it into my own studio warehouse, how we built the sets from the ground up, how evverything was created scpecifically for this film, right down to the costumes and the weapons, and how we did it all in 18 days! I've spent the last six months editing the film, composing the music, putting in the sound fx by hand (incredibly taxing, yet infinitely rewarding!)... and we are at the point where we are looking for a distributor and entering festivals. God bless Withoutabox!!! Oh, and special thanks to our vfx guy Dave, who worked on Superman Returns, and who respected this film and its themes from the first day he saw an early, early edit. His input has been tremendous, and his contributions speak for themselves. And Seamus, my cinematographer, and Mondo my sound guy -- two talented gents who helped bring my vision to life -- amazing individuals. So this is the first post, and I hope it's not the last as we move forward into the unknown... I'll keep you posted. Please feel free to ask questions or make comments. By the way, you can see the trailer here: http://www.thenextrace.com Much luck to you guys out there, and I will visit your sites and blogs as well. Stewart

Hi Stew, I checked out your website and The Next Race looks very interesting! I wanted to ask you if you already have your composer, if not I would love to chat with you about the possibility of scoring your film. I think it would be right up my alley.

    Hi Stewart!
Both the trailer and web site are very impressive. The look is that of a major production. So is chapter one something that storywise works on its own? Is it possible to see the film somewhere?

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. No screenings for now. I just finished the post-production and sent the documentary to some International festivals. We'll see.
I saw the trailer of your movie, "next race", it's pretty amazing! Is it your first feature?
