Family Night with the SCV Film Festival
Mar 02, 2007 12:00PM
March 11th at 7:00 p.m., the Santa
Clarita Valley (SCV) Film Festival will feature a
night of short family friendly films made by local
filmmakers. The program will include films from this
past year’s festival, animation by California
Institute of the Arts Alumni and “Rachel’s Fortune,” a
live action short film featuring Emma Allebrand, a
local Santa Clarita 8-year old in her first film role.
“Rachel’s Fortune” pulled from local Santa Clarita
talent. It was written, directed and produced by film
festival co-founders Ramon Hamilton and Jennifer
Fischer. Local sound and theater guru Nanook did the
sound mix on the film. Former College of the Canyons
student and Santa Clarita resident Brad Hoffarth was
the cinematographer for the film with Matthew Bowers,
who also lives in Santa Clarita, also working on the
project. “Rachel’s Fortune” was recently selected for
the San Francisco International Children’s Film
Festival.
The March 11th screening is part of the SCV Film
Festival’s ongoing Monthly Film Screening series,
which provides local filmmakers with opportunities to
show their work and to come together with an audience
to enjoy quality independent films. “The films that
will be screened this month were chosen because they
can be enjoyed by the whole family.” explains Ramon,
“The message and story offer something positive. We’re
excited to feature a night of family friendly films.”
The screening will be held at the Repertory East
Playhouse located at 24266 San Fernando Road in
Newhall. Admission is free; seating is limited.
The SCV Film Festival’s first After-School Film and
Video Workshops are in full swing. Students are
learning to write, shoot, act, edit and score a film
in this 10-week program. An animation workshop has
been added. The SCV Film Festival is currently
accepting students for this added workshop open to
youth ages 9-14. Call now to register your child for
this special program (661-251-0274). You can also
