Take Two
Nov 16, 2007 04:40PM
Take Two is autobiographical in theme. Although, the content and form as film critic/scholar, Janet Walker has written, "shows an indiosyncratic brand of storytelling." Unfortunately, "idiosyncrasy now seems to be synonymous with controversy.
Colleagues have misread the incidences of plot, involving the main character, Madelaine (played by cult favorite, Joyce Hyser) with the writer/director of this fiction film (yours truly). Consequently, I have been accused of everything from being a "black widow," to "home wrecker."
The initial reaction to the film I'm certain is the temperature of the times. In the institution where I teach, for every woman accepted into the advanced film program, there are ten men.
It seems that when a woman pulls off the mask revealing a life already half lived, she runs the risk of triggering the vitriol of a conservative agenda satisfied with the status quo and a silent minority.
My next film will deal with the results of this "vitriol." And how the power elite use psychological terrorism to discourage excellence, driving the creative mind into exile, madness, and worse.

A few images from our film Take Two. It's about bad choices, worse choices and personal redemption. Madelaine, a filmmaker, needs to fess up or else she may stay trapped by the arid landscape of the desert.
