Film: Sónar 2006 Special Report

Sabrina Fidalgo is a young Brazilian filmmaker and screenwriter, born in Rio de Janeiro. She studied dramatology at the "Universidade do Rio de Janeiro" before moving to Germany in 2001, where she learned german at the german course of the "Ludwig Maximilians Universitaet Muenchen" and later on studied documentary film and TV journalism, firstly as a guest student at the "Munich School of TV and Film". As the daughter of Ubirajara Fidalgo, actor, author, theatrical director, and creator of the Brazilian theatrical company Professional Black Theater, Sabrina made her stage debut at the age of 2 and acted in her first movie, the film "Quilombo" from director Caca Diegues at the age of 4. At age 15, after having acted professionally in several plays, she wrote her first play, an adaptation of Brazilian childrenâ��s book "Menina Bonita do laco de Fita" by Ana Maria Machado, and at 17 she joined the "Modern Dance Company of Rio de Janeiro" as a professional classical and contemporary ballet dancer. In 2003 she wrote and directed her first film in Rio de Janeiro, the documentary short "Samba Novo", a portrait of Rio de Janeiroâ��s young musicians, and in 2005 she worked as directorâ��s assistant in the German film "Death of Techno." She has worked as freelance international correspondent for the Brazilian magazine "Suite Rio," as well as for the German magazine "Brazine" and for several international club culture webzines, such as "Clubbity.com". She is also promoter and manager for the internationally acclaimed recording artist "Riovolt" and tour manager for the Italian drumâ��n bass project "Sambass" (Irma Records). Her next film project is the documentary RIO FUNK based on the book "Batidão- Uma Historia do Funk" by Silvio Essinger and produced by Chicas Productions.
