Film Maker's Blog
celebrating fellow New Zealanders
Oct 01, 2007 08:01PM
Gidday,
just a quick first up posting to acknowledge a couple of fellow kiwi performers who have done what many others woyuld love emulate, ie crack a significant slice of the daunting international film/TV pie for themselves. I refer to Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement who comprise the astoundingly talented ...Flight of The Conchords. My first experience of these dudes was seeing them perform on stage about 3 years ago and back then it was obvious that if the "right" people, in other words people who know people or maybe even who are the people that other people know, who know people, ...anyway it was just matter of time before someone who had some clout would snap these guys up and make them an offer they could not refuse, deny, turn down! And so it has come to pass...go to this site to check out their website http://www.conchords.co.nz/ or head over to this one to check out the HBO site for their version thereof...www.hbo.com/conchords/ ,
either way you will be converted I'm sure. Check out the other kiwi actor who is part of the series, Rhys Darby, he to is bloody brilliant.
A couple of the episodes in the series were directed by NZs very own massively talented Taika Waititi ( Two cars One Night..nomintaed for a short film academy award, and Eagle vs Shark )
1nite continues to sit on the shelves waiting for me to give it some attention and effort to get it out there to its waiting public. I shall try.
meanwhile Peter Jackson who I had the true joy of working for/with on Lord Of The Rings, is heading into his new film The Lovely Bones. If you have not already done so, go out and buy the book, it is bloody beautiful. Jimmy Cameron is in New Zealand starting production on his next megamajor blockbuster, Avatar. I am on a short list apparently, so if anyone who reads this could please cross their collective fingers for me, that would be nice!!!
Alright I'm gone, and will be back like a terminatory thing
cheers
bruce
getting on board

Just posting a quick note to thank the folks at withoutbox for this opportunity.
I am a film maker from New Zealand, as well as only having a population of 4 million ( humans that is ), some damn fine natural vistas and a bloody talented pool of crew and cast, we are probably one of the more remote locations on the face of the globe,... the nearest country to us is Australia which is a 3 hour journey across the Tasman Sea by plane. What this all adds up to is a real isolation for our independent film makers. So, having this forum provided by withoutabox is very cool. I am gradually disciplining myself to be involved online with blogs etc, and so am looking forward to getting to know some of you and ...who knows maybe one day we will drink red wine together as we celebrate the success of our films at some festival in an exotic locale.
I have a blog called insidefilmnz, google it and have alook see if you like or you can check out my website at www.bruce-hopkins.com.
for now, it's great to be on board
