Just waiting to show the world my film.
Aug 31, 2006 08:26PM
Well, so far I have been rejected from 2 of the 6 film festivals that I have applied to. It's a little discouraging, but I must press on. This is a movie that I put my heart and soul into. It's taken me 4 years to finish it, and I just want to show it to everyone. What I want to know is "how many film festivals do most people apply for?" Should I try to get 1,000 festivals to see my movie? I'm paying for everything out of my own pocket so I don't really have the money to do that. At this rate, I'll have to find some way to raise money to send off my film to other festivals. Maybe I should create my own film festival just to show off my work. I would love to hear from some of you that are going through the same thing stress as me. What do you think?

Thank you to everyone who came to the World Premiere last night

Well, last night went off without a hitch - except the heat. I keep forgetting that in Alabama during July the heat (along with humidity) is almost unbearable. Still, 125 people came to show support for the film. I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who has given their support for this film. It's taken a long time, but I feel that it is right to show it now. Thank you.

Thanks for the add, Andrew. Regarding how many festivals you should submit to, my suggestion is to target a limited number that have a program representative of the type of movie you've made. Feature-length movies, especially docs, tend to have less slots in most festivals than narrative features or shorts. Research the festivals and be selective, else you could go through a lot of money needlessly. Definitely pop over to the WAB Message Boards and get opinions from other filmmakers. Between the WAB members, there's a ton of experience you can glean valuable information from in order to most efficiently shepherd you film to wherever you're aiming to go with it.
