Ditched at the altar, hell bent Spencer Starkington goes on a brutal killing spree to retrieve his beloved mother's (P.J. Soles) heirloom ring. The gorgeous and wedding hating, chick flick bashing Detective Rikki Moore (Sasha Knopf) and irreverant Detective Cade Hamilton chase Spencer through a quirky maze of pawn shops, massage parlors, and a corpse raiding cop - as the ring bounces from one beautiful deseperate bride-to-be to the next ( Christa Campbell, Iyari Limon)

"Quentin Tarentino meets Jason from Friday the 13th" - Review Robert Shuster, author Sevenacide

Stay single...and see this film!, 24 May 2006

Author: writenact from United States

I had the chance to catch this movie while I was at the World Horror Convention in San Francisco and I was pleasantly surprised. It's basically a Quentin Tarentino meets Jason from Friday the 13th film, with plot twists that keep you engaged until the end.

This movie is loaded with great performances, most notably P.J. Soles. Her portrayal of Spencer Starkington's mother is the creepiest movie mother I've ever seen. police academy. All of the characters are played like something out of Pulp Fiction, with lots of quirky tics and memorable personalities. It also helps that the movie has a great story and a solid script.

This movie was a total hoot, with spills and thrills for everyone! - Robert Shuster, author of Seven

Bloody – Disgusting Review
“Death By Engagement” is a well-written and extremely fun film with a lot of great dialogue and enough gore to satisfy most horror fans. There is also plenty of nudity for guys who might be forced to watch what they consider a “chick flick”. But don’t ask Rikki about “chick flicks” – her character is a breath of fresh air as she constantly tells Cade that not all women are like the ones portrayed in said films. However, a twist at the end of “Death” involving Rikki and a change of attitude sets the stage for the solution to the murders.

With colorful characters, gruesome deaths, a weirdo mom and a “walking dead” son as well as the gleefully sarcastic view on the tradition of engagements and marriage, “Death By Engagement” is one of the best low-budget indies I have seen this year. Check it out!

Winner Best Slasher Feature-World Horror Convention Film Festival - San Francisco Bay Guardian
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

San Francisco Bay Guardian

My weakness for anything starring P.J. Soles (Carrie, Halloween, Rock n Roll High School) drew me to Death by Engagement, writer-director Philip Creager's slick slasher flick. A woman dumps her fiancé at the altar after realizing she's about to marry the world's biggest rageaholic (he's addicted to rageahol!). He promptly tracks her down and beats her to a pulp but is soon brought to the edge of death himself by a pair of trigger-happy cops, one of whom discreetly slides the honkin' diamond ring off the bride's bloody hand. The cursed bauble then snakes its way though the lives of several young and fabulous LA types, leaving a trail of corpses in its wake.
