Film Description:
The New River in Calexico, CA is one of the most
dangerous places to cross the U.S. Mexican border.
The disorderly environment of a night crossing can cause intense reactions from both sides, where anything could happen in matter of seconds...
Synopsis
“Turn Back South” explores how the border realities affect those trying to get through and those who are trying to stop them. It tells the story of the relationship between these two groups of people, both of them underdogs who are pitted against each other by circumstance and politics. We follow United States Border Patrol agents and a woman who crossed the border with her three children. We learn about their lives as they share their experiences with illegal crossings. Witness high-tension night encounters between Border Patrol agents and immigrants. The film includes an interview with Enrique Morones, founder of Border Angels, a group that leaves food and water in the desert for immigrants. We meet him in the cemetery of unidentified crossers where Border Angles holds an event each year in remembrance of the people who have died trying to cross the border.

Ratings
Amazing glimpse into the darkness of illegal immigration. It is unbelievable look at the lack of humanity we share with even our closest neighbors.
A fearless and skillfully weaved jaunt into a world greatly misunderstood by the American public. This piece should be required viewing.
