Film Description:

Synopsis

In a small, colourful, and vibrant Comic-book town, where gangs inhabit every street corner, games arcade, shopping mall and coffee shop, live two brothers, Heng and Bee. Big brother Heng loves to harass his younger brother, like a bad habit. Bee, on the other hand, is a blur kid. He tolerates his elder brother’s nonsense with great patience. He even makes little sacrifices for Heng, like offer his ice-cream. Despite the bullying, there is one thing the two brothers will unite to do extremely well together. Para-para dancing! Every weekday afternoon, the 2 brothers will take on the para-para dance machines at the games arcade. They are fast. They are furious. They are phenomenally in-sync! They even attract a hoard of fans!!! One day, Bee is kidnapped by Ang Ku Kueh, the notorious leader of the Red Demon Gang. Heng immediately goes to the rescue, but only to find himself caught in a ridiculous “Mexican” standoff. Will Heng sacrifice himself to save his brother, or his brother to save himself? Starring the amiable Alaric Tay (Yang Sisters) who also acts as Producer and Director; Terence Tay (Living With Lydia); Caroline Cheong (Light Years); and one of Hong Kong’s rising new talents, Ben Yeung (Love Story), this short comedy about brotherhood and self-sacrifice will make you roll with laughter… and touch you to tears.

A successful premiere! Nov 24, 2006 10:34PM
Bengs premiered last night at the Canon DV Fest, held at the DXO Club at the Esplanade. Screened to a crowd of over 500 guests, Bengs received a rousing applause when the end credits flashed. Despite the sight glitch during the screening, the feedback i received after the event was overwhelmingly positive. I wanna give a BIG SHOUT OUT to my wonderful team of assistants, creatives, crew and actors, without whom this film would not have been possible. Thank you guys! Also, a big thank you to the Beng fans for your generous votes!!! - ALaric
Trivia #2 Nov 19, 2006 10:41PM
* The word “Bengs” may seem a bit strange to our non-Singaporean friends. It is a word used to describe local gangsters. In recent times, it also evolved to describe a certain outlook or behaviour. Such as squatting by a pavement and talking loudly on the mobile phone, or talking in an uncivil manner, or in the case of this film, being a bully.
Trivia #1 Nov 19, 2006 10:40PM
* The title is a homage paid to Leon Gast & Taylor Hackford’s Academy Award winning documentary When We Were Kings, which was about one of Boxing’s greatest upsets – The 1974 heavyweight championship fight between former champion George Foreman and underdog challenger, Muhammad Ali.

This has got to be one of the best pleasent surprise from Alaric Tay for me! This is a production of a soon-to-be-killer-director-from-the-east-who-is-going-to-take-over-the-world.

I am proud of his latest production.

The creation and selection of cast of this film is extraordinary - talented and handsome actors and actresses. To make things even closer to the heart for me, I know most the cast and crews personally as friends!

Watching this film is more than a joyful experience.

Witty dialogue, excellent cast and crews, sensational sound track, exciting and relentless from one scene to another...it's an excellent comedy that keeps you "up" from the 1st minute to the last.

Favourite line: "Shi Ni SUAN de" (it's your choice) - Ang Ku Kueh.
Favourite Scene: Opening scene with the "broken ice-cream drum stick"
Favrouite female Lead: Mother or Jane Ho...not much of a choice isn't it?
Favourite male Lead: Ah Heng (of course)
Most out-of-point scene: "WA-WA-WA-SA-BAY-PING-QI-LING-SCENE"
Love it because: It's f**king hilarious with great story line for future expansion.

Running out of things to say, but it's a killer film. Go watch it.
