Film Description:
Synopsis
Meet Gina Ferraro A sexy, whip-smart, perpetually single feline who has 30 minutes scheduled on her Blackberry to have a nervous breakdown. Where better to purge in obscurity than in a cemetery on a bench next to a passed out drunk? It is right next door to the Fatburger, after all. Lamenting to GOD and demanding that HE send her a boyfriend, Gina is momentarily stunned when the drunk, who’s not, sits up and suggests that she should try online dating. Deprived, and losing her mind? Yes. Loser? No. Only desperate losers look for love online. Sitting in mortified anonymity behind her computer screen that same evening, armed with the requisite single and sexless salves: Patron Silver, a pack of Djarums, and three different kinds of Ben and Jerry’s, Gina true to satirical and inebriated form, finally decides on the opening line of her personal ad: “Due to the recent destruction of my vibrator…” At 30, why lie? Welcome to her life…

I was part of a filmmakers group with a guy out of Chicago who had a production company and was looking to shoot pilots. I wrote "Welcome To My Life" (my first script) and submitted it. The guy loved it and preproduction commenced. A week before we were supposed to shoot with no prior mention, he hit me with a contract giving him 50% ownership of the project. Poor guy was under the grand misconception that I would acquiesce out of desperation because we were so close to shooting my "baby." Uh...no. I'm a Spanish/Italian NYC broad. I don't respond well to manipulation. Suffice it to say Mr. Chicago was shown the door with a stiletto in his arse.
Bravado aside, it did hurt. I loved being part of a team and the dissolution of it in such an ugly way sent me fetal for a few weeks.
A month later, having gotten my balls back, I set the wheels in motion on my own. I didn't know a THING about how to make a film. Duvatine? Music in the public domain? Huh? Soon I found myself helming a 30 person cast and crew. I'd schedule 15 minute breakdowns and push on. I'd meet with a filmmaker friend before crew meetings so I'd know what the hell to say to a UPM, etc., without sounding like an idiot. I learned how to beg! And much to my normally prideful surprise, it wasn't so bad! Not when you believe in something, anyway. I was blessed with a stellar crew. People who work for deferred-pay contracts don't normally hold the bar of excellence high, but they all, for the most part, remained staunch professionals. I work hard at attaining success in part just to hire them again.
With out-of-the-gate screenings at CBS and Cinespace, acceptance at the very first fest I entered, The Other Venice Film Festival, and two early acceptances for upcoming ones in September and October, I am thrilled to be part of this spectacular new community of artists.
Stay tuned!
