“No Escape” esthetics borrows from the visual world of computer war games. Those immersive environments that imitate so much the “realistic” images delivered to us through the news broadcasts, up to a point to which it is no longer clear which one is the original and which the imitation. As we immerse into the word depicted in this movie, we gradually discover the reflection of the gamer/soldier who – in a zombie way – operates the game/war machine that by pressing a button sends destruction and disaster to the targeted town. The soundtrack – based on keystrokes on a computer keyboard – reinforces the monotonic – thoughtless act of “casual killing” described in the movie.
