Film Description:
In order to graduate from film school a privileged White Boy from Beverly Hills must intern in New York City for a cranky old black man who makes award-winning documentary films, and learns a life-changing lesson about the human condition from a Latina prostitute (the subject of their documentary) who has fallen from fame and fortune and is now homeless, seven months pregnant, and addicted to crack.
Synopsis
JOSH is the son of famous Hollywood director who thinks a film should have action, tits and mind-blowing effects. This conflicts with the University's PROFESSOR ALLEN, who believes film should reveal something innate about the human condition. As his final thesis, Josh will assist in completing the kind of humanistic films that Professor Allen appreciates. If he fails his summer internship with the celebrated documentary filmmaker named NATHANIEL PARKS, he will not graduate. Upon arriving to New York, Josh meets a homeless black man known as Crazy Ned who carries a tattered Big Brown Bag from Bloomingdale’s and debates his imaginary friend Socrates. Josh is surprised Crazy Ned knows everything about him. Josh soon realizes Crazy Ned is really Nathaniel Parks pretending to be a homeless man in order to get undercover footage of DOLORES, the once beautiful, spoiled-rich wife of deceased football great MANNY FLORES. Now, Dolores is homeless, seven months pregnant, and addicted to crack. Stuffed inside the Big Brown Bag is a 16MM Arriflex camera he calls Bertha. Crazy Ned has followed Dolores on the streets of New York for nearly a year, documenting her every move. Crazy Ned lays down the law. He’s a one-man show who doesn’t need some rich white boy getting in his way. One complaint and he’s off the project. Crazy Ned takes Josh to a dark alley to find Dolores. She’s the subject of the documentary Crazy Ned is shooting called “Crack Baby,” This begins an incredible journey for Josh.
